ISO 90018 November 2026
Quality management documents and planning materials

What ISO published

ISO published ISO 9001:2026 on 16 September 2026. The sixth edition retains the familiar quality management system (QMS) framework and updates how the requirements are explained and applied. ISO highlights leadership, a culture of quality and ethical behaviour, with clearer treatment of risks and opportunities. The new Annex A explains the intent of selected requirements.

What to review first

Compare your existing QMS with the published edition. Use one process, such as customer complaints, to see where the new emphasis matters. Check who reviews recurring issues, how staff escalate concerns and what evidence shows that corrective actions reduced repeat complaints.

  • Ask process owners to identify where leadership decisions affect product or service quality. Capture examples in management review records.
  • Review whether risk and opportunity actions have clear owners, review dates and a way to assess effectiveness.
  • Update the internal audit plan to sample decisions and outcomes as well as procedures and records.

If your organisation already holds an accredited certificate, check the ISO 9001:2026 certification transition timetable before booking your next audit.
